Brake maintenance is crucial for ensuring that you and your family are safe when driving. This simple brake fluid replacement method can help keep your brakes in tip-top shape.
When It’s Time To Change Brake Fluid
Pull your brake fluid gauge out of your engine and check its color. When it has a milky or whitish color, condensation and water has seeped into the brake fluid and must be changed. While your brakes will still work, this condensation will slowly destroy your master cylinder and your brake system.
Start By Bleeding Your Brake Lines
Open the bleeder valve near the brakes while another person pumps the brakes control in the car. This will push the air out of the system and make it easier to remove the brake fluid. Continue to pump the brakes until no more fluid flows out.
Replace The Brake Fluid
Pour a new container of brake fluid through your system and pump your brakes with the valve closed. This will move it through the system and increase the pressure on your brake control. Stop once it is fully firm.
Check The Brake Pad
While you’re working on your brakes, it’s not a bad idea to take your tire off the frame and inspect the pads. Your pad should be thick enough for your brakes to grip and shouldn’t have any grooves.
If your brake pads show signs of wear, or if you are struggling to change your brake fluid, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We can help walk you through this process and save you from making a mistake in your repairs.
