Not driving your car regularly can affect the long, and short term health of your vehicle. As we are all being responsible citizens and staying indoors as part of the social distancing during the COVID19 outbreak, here are some tips to maintain your car during this period.
- Clean your Car Regularly
Clean your car every few days to prevent an accumulation of dirt from building up in various parts. If your car cleaner is not available due to the outbreak, and you are able to access your car without leaving the premises, do it yourself once every few days as dirt accumulation can have a negative impact. - Fill your Fuel tank
If you know you are not going to be driving your car regularly, it is best to ensure the fuel tank is full to prevent a build up of moisture within the tank. - Make sure to start your car every few days
One of the parts of your vehicle that could suffer the most due to non-usage is your battery. If you are able to get to your car without violating any government directives, try and start your car once every 3-4 days to keep your battery engaged. - Make sure to rotate your tyres
If your car is parked within your villa and you are able to move your car, it is advisable to drive it a little bit to ensure the tyres are rotated. If the car is left in the same position for an extended period of time, the same portion of the tyres will bear the whole weight of the car, possibly damaging that portion of the tyre and making it more prone to punctures. - Try not to use your handbrake
If possible, try not to park your car on an inclined surface and leave the handbrake engaged for an extended period as this can have a negative impact on your brakes.
